Improving the Analysis of Fatty Acid Methyl Esters Using Automated Sample Preparation Techniques
نویسنده
چکیده
An automated method for esterifying fatty acids in canola oil samples is presented. Using the Agilent 7696A Sample Prep WorkBench, a side-by-side comparison was undertaken comparing a manual method employing automatic pipettors to a method developed for this automated system. Using the Agilent 7696A Sample Prep WorkBench, preparation of 10 samples resulted in 3% RSD for both an acid-catalyzed and base-catalyzed reaction. When comparing the automated acid-catalyzed method to the manual preparation, the RSD improved by a factor of two. Furthermore, by automating the fatty acid preparation the amount of reagents consumed was reduced up to 50-fold. Overall, the automated method resulted in better precision and accuracy with smaller amounts of reagents used and less time required from the operator to

Automated Sample Preparation for FAME Analysis in Edible Oils Using an Agilent 7696A Sample Prep WorkBench
Automating fatty acid derivatization and preparation of calibration standards on an Agilent 7696A Sample Prep WorkBench for fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) analysis can provide comparable precision, better recoveries, and more accurate calibration compared to manual procedures. Hands-on time, reagent usage, and exposure to hazardous chemicals are all greatly reduced. This automated approach has...
متن کاملThe Study of Biodiesel Characterization Obtained from CapparisSpinosa Oil Seed
Biodiesel is usually produced from food-grade vegetable oil using trans-esterification process. As an effective factor on the biodiesel characteristics of the biodiesel is the kind of feedstock which is used, so finding a proper feedstock for using initially has an important role for different places. So, in this research, disposal substances of Capparis Spinosa are used as a feedstock for prod...
متن کاملEffect of Slaughter Weight, Carcass Weight and Sex on the Carcass Fatty Acid Composition of Boutsiko Breed Lambs
The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of slaughter and carcass weight, age at slaughter and sex on the fatty acid profile of the Greek Boutsiko sheep breed. Twenty lambs (ten females and ten males) were examined. The lambs were slaughtered at the age of 48 days. Carcasses were chopped in nine specific cuts and a random sample of 100 g was taken from each cut, with a total of 180...
متن کاملEffects of Almond Genotype and Growing Location on Oil Percentage and Fatty Acid Composition of its Seeds
Almond oil is used in many cosmetic products as a snack, in confectionery (marzipan, "turrón", nougat), food products (almond milk, ice cream, chocolate), culinary recipes and also cosmetic base. For surveying the effects of almond genotype and growing location on oil percentage of oil seed content and fatty acid of almond, seeds of 6 almond cultivars: Ferragnes, Tuono, Azar, Sahand, Nonpareil ...
متن کاملAutomated determination of fatty acid methyl ester and cis/trans methyl ester composition of fats and oils.
The determination of the fatty acid composition (as methyl esters, FAMEs) of fats and oils and their cis/trans (CTME) distribution requires a simple, but manual and time-consuming sample preparation. The so-called BF3 method is often the preferred procedure. Because FAME/CTME analyses are encountered very frequently in the food industry, an automated, robot-based alternative is proposed which u...
